Cordell Hull Award

In the spirit of Cordell Hull, the Institute has established an annual Cordell Hull Award in recognition of outstanding support for the multilateral trading system and the movement towards an open world economy.

 

 

Relevance of Cordell Hull�s Legacy to Today was the title of the address by Chuck Hagel, Nebraska�s senior U.S. senator, on receiving the first Cordell Hull Award at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington, DC, on May 8, 2003.

 

 

 

 

                                                                                                                                

Seven Essentials of U.S. Trade Policy was the title of the address by Charles Grassley, the senior U.S. senator from Iowa, and chairman of the Senate finance committee, on receiving the second Cordell Hull Award at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on July 14, 2004.

 

 

 

 

 

The recipient of the Cordell Hull Award for 2005 will be Peter Sutherland, the first director-general of the WTO, who was the last head of the GATT when he played a key role in drawing the Uruguay Round negotiations to a conclusion.  In 2003-05, Mr Sutherland was chairman of the WTO consultative board whose report, The Future of the World Trade Organization, was published early in 2005.
